Fire Safety Week Oct 8-12 In recognition of National Fire Safety Week, we are asking all Greeley students to bring one or more bottles of Gatorade to school as a donation to the Greeley Volunteer Fire Dept. We appreciate our firefighters across the street and all they do for our community!
Anti-Bullying Week Oct 8-12 We have several activities planned that focus on anti-bullying awareness.
Fall Field Trips
Preschool Pumpkin Patch: Thursday, October 11. The preschoolers will travel to Peckham’s Pumpkin Patch in Rantoul, KS. Our Greeley PTO will cover entry fees and each child will bring home a pumpkin. The preschool bus will pick-up and drop-off students as usual in the mornings and afternoon. Please make sure your child is wearing socks, tennis shoes, and a light jacket. This is a wonderful opportunity for the preschoolers!
Midland Railway: Thursday, October 11. Kindergarten, 1st, and 2nd graders will take a field trip to the Midland Railway in Baldwin City. They will enjoy an excursion trip from Baldwin City to Norwood, KS (round-trip 1 hour). Our PTO will pay fees for students. Parents must purchase tickets in advance, on-line at www.midlandrailway.org for $14 plus a $3 convenience fee, otherwise a seat is not guaranteed. Parents may ride the field trip bus, however, un-enrolled siblings may not. (due to school insurance/liability). Students must bring a sack lunch and drink! They will eat lunch at the train station pavilion, followed by a visit to the Lumberyard Arts Center in downtown Baldwin City. Students will return to school by 3:00 p.m. for dismissal.
K-6 Pumpkin Patch: Thursday, October 25. Kindergarten through 6th grade students will be going to Peckham’s Pumpkin Patch in Rantoul, KS. The bus will leave the school around 9:00 a.m. Please have your child wear appropriate clothing for an afternoon at the pumpkin patch (tennis shoes, a jacket etc). All students must bring a sack lunch and drink! Our Greeley PTO will cover entry fees and a pumpkin for each student. Parents may attend but will need to drive their own vehicle. Re-scheduled for Mon. Oct. 29th due to rain.
School Pictures: Proofs/order forms went home with students on 9/28. If you would like to order your child’s school photos, please return your completed form and payment to your child’s teacher by FRIDAY, OCTOBER 5TH. If you would like to order pictures but cannot fit the cost into your budget by next week, you can always order pictures at a later date with a late-order form, available in the school office.
Picture Re-takes: Wednesday, October 10th, for students who were absent on the first picture day and for students with written parent permission. We will not re-take pictures based on your child’s request only. We need to know by Tuesday, Oct 9.

Sweats: Gray, black, red, navy Sizes for 6-8 year olds. Preferably w/elastic ankle
Halloween Buck Bingo and Raffle
Friday, October 19 Doors open at 5:30 p.m. Our first Buck Bingo Night of the year! Wear your Halloween costume and receive a free ticket to use at bingo or the concession stand. Students are asked to bring a donation of 1-2 Fall or Halloween-related items as bingo prizes. Donations should be sent to school prior to October 19th if possible.
$1.00 Halloween Raffle
The annual $1.00 raffle drawing will take place in conjunction with Buck Bingo Night (which replaces the carnival this year). Raffle tickets will be distributed to students the week of October 1-5 in books of 10. If you sell all 10 tickets and would like more, please return the ticket stubs and money for the first book, along with a written note from parent/guardian requesting the quantity of tickets needed. This is a big fundraiser for the PTO and your support is appreciated! All unsold tickets and money need to be turned in by the morning of Friday, October 19th.
Some raffle prizes include: a Fire 7 Tablet, Child’s Bike, Lawn Chair, Lunch Cooler, KC Chief’s Items, Crock Pot, Mums, Spa Pedicure, Gift Certificates and more!
Earth Balloon: Friday, October 12th in the afternoon. Sponsored by Anderson County Conservation, and returning for the second year in a row, this large balloon allows students to see Earth in 3D and observe it’s topography. Be sure to ask your child about it and see if they learned anything new!
Pride Assembly- 1st Quarter Wednesday, October 17 @ 2:30 K, 1, 2 classes will give a short program; awards and student recognition will follow.
Parent/Teacher Conferences: All Schools- Thursday, October 18 4:00-8:00 p.m.
All Elementary: Tuesday, Oct 23 4:00-8:00 p.m. Forms have been sent home for parents/guardians to reserve a day & time that works best. Please complete and return the form to your child’s teacher.
Flu Vaccination Clinic: Tuesday, October 23 9:00-11:00 a.m. Consent forms will be sent home with students. Please complete forms and return them to the school office. (with payment if required) by Monday, Oct. 22. Several types of insurance can be accepted (and are listed on consent form) Un-insured or under-insured students can pay $25.00 to receive their vaccination at the school clinic. Adult, uninsured may cost $55-$80 depending on age, due at time of service.
K-6 Halloween Parade and Classroom Parties: Wednesday, October 31. Parade @ 1:30 p.m. …….parties will follow. Parents who want to help their child with their costume should arrive at 1:15 p.m. (no earlier, please). We will walk from the school to the Greeley Co-op and back…..trick or treating businesses along the way. If you would like to help with the classroom party please contact your child’s teacher.
Cookie Sales: Mrs. Secrest’s 6th graders will begin cookie sales again this year. Thank you to those who supported their efforts last year! Cookies sales will be monthly this year with orders/payment due the first Wednesday of each month and cookies ready the first Friday of each month. They are earning money for their “moving up to Junior High” party.
