December 2018

             Greeley Wildcat News

December is here!  We’ve already had eight inches of snow and a blizzard!  It could be a cold and snowy winter which is great if you love winter……but if you don’t…..may you enjoy a cozy winter indoors.

gingerbread   Preschool December Happenings

Preschool students will be busy learning and having fun all month.   We will be making a Christmas Craft each day during December.  Students will be enjoying the classroom transformation into the “Gingerbread Cafe.”  Here they will get to use fine motor skills, practice good manners, and work with one another to make imaginary food and drinks.    We will be building individual gingerbread houses on December 11, have our very own “Preschool Christmas Store” on December 17th and 18th and enjoy our Christmas Party on December 20th. We are hoping for a North Pole visitor this month!  If you would like to donate items for the “Preschool Christmas Store” please contact Miss Burris at the school.

Preschool will not have school on Friday, December 21st Our last day of preschool before the holiday break is Thursday, Dec. 20th for both sessions.  We will retrun to school on Monday, January 7th

gingerbread houseGingerbread Houses-    Tuesday, Dec. 11th.      K-6th students will be building their annual gingerbread houses for the holidays.  Our PTO purchases the icing, plates & bowls for us, but the candy and other decorations must come from our families!  The decorative items needed are divided up by grade so we have even amounts of everything.  All students will be given a paper that lists the item(s) he/she should bring for gingerbread houses.  Please follow it carefully and have it at the school by Friday, Dec. 7th so we have time to make sure we have what we need!!!!  Please send it by this date!   If your budget doesn’t allow you to donate to this activity, we understand-  please let your child’s teacher know, via a note or a phone call to the office at 867-3460.  Houses will be sent home with families after the Winter Program.  Preschool will also build gingerbread houses during their class time on Dec. 11th.  All pre-k supplies and candy are provided.

woodstockChristmas Store K-6th-    Thursday, Dec 13 and Friday, Dec 14.   Our school is very fortunate to have a Parent-Teacher Organization (PTO) that works very hard throughout the year so we may enjoy lots and lots of extras.  One of the very favorite extras we get each year is the Christmas Store.   The store is an opportunity for our students to shop for small Christmas gifts for their family.  Prices are kept very low-  $1.00 to $5.00.   Each class will shop on Thursday for immediate (household) family, and then again on Friday for anyone they want.  After purchasing their gifts, students may wrap them in the gym.  All supplies are provided.   Students must bring some money to school with them by Dec. 12th if they will be shopping.   They LOVE being able to do their own shopping and the variety of gifts is amazing.

Please have your child’s money in a sealed envelope with his/her name on it.  Please list the names of relatives your child will shop for on Thursday and again on Friday.  This will make it easier for our helpers to assist your child with selections if needed.  This activity is a great way for children to learn the lesson of budgeting!!  Please call the school office with any questions or concerns regarding this activity.

Parent Volunteers will be needed for the Christmas Store:       1) Help children shop          2)  Help with gift wrapping in the gym.   12:15- 2:30 on both days.  Please call the school office if you are available to help.  785-867-3460  You may help however it works for you- all volunteer time is appreciated.

star    Class Parties K-6th-    Thursday, Dec. 20.   This year we are combining class parties into one big party in the gym- beginning at 2:15 p.m.   Gift exchanges will still be held in the classrooms prior to 2:15.  Parents are asked to bring or send treats that will be shared by all students.  Parents/guardians are welcome to help with the big party.  K-2 parents should bring or send cookies;  3rd/4th cupcakes;  5th/6th  juice boxes.  *See the red note that went home on 11/29/18 with more details.

Student Gift Exchange K-6th-    Each class will have a student gift exchange with a spending limit of $5.00.  The gift exchange will be during the classroom parties.  Boys should bring a boy gift; girls should bring a girl gift.  Please have the gift in the classroom by Friday, December 14th so we know that everyone has something to open.  Remember- the Christmas Store is a great place to purchase a small gift for the classroom exchange.
