School History

Our History:

The history of our school dates back to 1914 when the original building was constructed. Greeley Elementary/High School enrolled students in grades 1 through 12. There were approximately 100 high school students, with fewer numbers in grades 1 through 8. In 1949 a full gymnasium was added to the building and is still in use today. By approximately 1965, a Kindergarten room was added to accommodate the 1/2 day and full day program. As years passed, a decline in enrollment combined with the growing trend of school consolidation resulted in the closing of Greeley High School (and eventually the Junior High). We consolidated with Garnett High School and became part of USD 365. Our old building was demolished leaving the gym, upper classrooms and Kindergarten room for educating the elementary students.

In 1991 the need for more space was apparent and two new classrooms were added to the building. In 2007 a second addition allowed two more large classrooms, an administrative office and entry -way to be built.

Our School Today:

Today we have some of the newest facilities in the area. Our district passed a bond issue in 2010 that included the replacement of the gym floor, new windows, restroom renovations, new flooring in the lunchroom, new roofing, replacement of the heating/cooling system and sealing of the exterior of the building.

We have the latest technology available to all students. Dell computers and laptops are used throughout the building and are available for student projects and research. We also have inter-active projectors in every classroom. These allow teachers to instruct in a whole new way- incorporating the internet and learning sites that children find fascinating and easy to follow.

Our enrollment remains steady and our dedicated faculty and staff look forward each day to working with your child. Our small size allows us to offer the individual attention your child may need, yet we can offer all the opportunities your child deserves.

Preschool

Our preschool program was started in 2009 and has become extremely popular. Students ages 3 yrs to 5 yrs with special needs are combined with peer model students under the direction of Mrs. Alisa Self. Pre-screening for admittance is required and interested parents should contact Joan Simpson at 785-448-3073 to begin the screening process. There are two sessions: Morning Class from 8:00-11:00 am and the Afternoon Class from 12:00-3:00. Transportation is provided by USD 365 Transportation and is free of charge. Required forms for admittance include: a copy of your child's state certified birth certificate, immunization log and current health assessment. Two Hepatitis A vaccinations (6 months apart) will be required for preschoolers.

Kindergarten-6th Grade

We offer all-day Kindergarten and those students are in their own classroom. Grades 1 through 6 are combined (1st & 2nd, 3rd & 4th, 5th & 6th ) The combination classrooms offer unique opportunities to absorb higher level material while learning and mastering skills at a child’s own level.
